What is ECO4?
What is eco4 is the fourth phase of the Energy Company Obligation scheme, a government initiative that helps UK households make their homes more energy efficient and tackles fuel poverty. It’s open to homeowners, private tenants and some landlords who claim certain benefits, or are deemed eligible under council flexible energy rules. ECO4 offers insulation and heating grants, as well as renewables such as solar panels and heat pumps.
The government aims to ensure that the resources available for ECO4 are invested where they will have the most impact. As a result, the eligibility criteria has evolved over time to align with the carbon saving obligation that energy suppliers must adhere to. For example, claiming disability-related benefits and Disabled Facilities Grants no longer automatically guarantees eligibility for the scheme. Instead, you might be required to provide a Child Benefit Award Notice or self-declare your total household income to determine whether you qualify.

Despite the changes in eligibility rules, ECO4 is still an excellent opportunity for families to save money on their energy bills and improve their living standards. It also helps reduce carbon emissions, contributing to the global goal of preserving our environment.
