A great way for marketers to promote themselves on TikTok is through challenge ad campaigns. These are often done to piggyback on existing TikTok trends (Learn to create TikTok ads). They can also be used to encourage users to create their challenges for the platform.

The first thing to do in the campaign creation process is set a budget. This should be a daily amount you are willing to spend on the campaign. TikTok recommends a minimum of $5 per day, or at least $70 for the life of the campaign.

Next, select an objective. The platform breaks this down to show you the most popular options:

oCPM (optimized cost per thousand impressions) is good for brand awareness, app installs, and conversions. CPC (cost per click) is best for generating leads and website conversions.

Once you have selected an objective, TikTok will ask you to create a campaign, ad group, and set a daily budget. It is recommended that you use the same budget for the entire ad group to ensure that all creatives are served at the same rate.

You will also want to create a custom audience at this point. You can do this by navigating to Assets > Audiences. Here, you will be able to generate lookalike audiences as well as generate interest and behavior targeting. Once your audiences are ready, you will be able to add them to your ad groups in the next step.
